Menu Plan Monday

With my husband gone a lot the past few weeks, I was the only one needing dinner in the house...which left my menu plans not completed. I have been kinda just filling in dinners here and there when he is going to be home at night. This week we should have a pretty normal schedule, and I'm back to meal planning! I hope you enjoy and have a wonderful week!

Wednesday- One Pot Pasta
Saturday- Dinner at Church
Sunday- Mom makes the ham, My side: Sweet Corn Spoonbread
My appetizer: Asparagus Tart

Liebster Award

I was recently nominated by Basically Bella, I haven't done a question and answer thing like this since probably Xanga (anyone remember that blog site?). I hope you enjoy...and if you want to check out new blogs I nominated some people at the bottom.

1. How did you come to start your blog?

I actually started my blog when I was still interning in college. Once I graduated I aspired to be one of the great teacher bloggers and create lessons and sell stuff on Teacherspayteachers.  It never actually happened and instead of selling I bought hundreds of dollars worth way too much stuff on there! After having Bennett I started blogging as a way to do something when he was napping, and just a way to connect with the people outside of my house. It has become a little difficult to do every day with a Bennett's busy social calendar, and I enjoy spending my time with him so blogging takes place when I am not so tired and have a free minute to myself. You can always catch up with me on instagram.

2. What do you look for in other blogs when searching for new ones to follow?

I used to love reading teacher blogs, that was the majority of my feedly feed. Since having a baby and being a stay at home mom, I have since enjoyed reading people's blogs who have things in common with where I am at in my life. I love reading about DIY projects, favorite baby items, favorite recipes, quick hair styles...anything about your life I enjoy!

3. What is your favorite book, and if you don't read, movie?

I wrote about this about a week ago...I have done a really bad job reading lately. Shame completely on me for not picking up a book and reading it...but really I enjoy spending my time with my baby and my husband and blogging to read a book. I love the Hunger Games and Shopaholic series, but here are some of my favorites as a kid and teen though--

4. If you could be anyone from any time in history, who would it be?

There are quite a few people that I find very intriguing, and who I would love to see how they lived and just be a little bit like them.

Christopher Columbus- because I want to see how what it was like to actually discover land. How amazing of a job to go search for undiscovered places. I know, I know...it wasn't all the fun.

Whitney Houston- for her voice, oh if I could only sing like her!

Princess Diana- I would love to have the heart that she did to help others

Audrey Hepburn- for her amazing class and style

5. What is your favorite love story you know (real or fiction)

I obviously love my love story...which you can read all about here. One of my favorite in a book is anything from Nicholas Sparks. I love his love stories and any of these stories will send me into a super sap fest.

6. What's your one, never fail beauty secret?

Always wear mascara. ;)

7. If you could visit anywhere, where would it be?

I really would love to go back to England with my hubby. I want to show him everywhere I went when I interned over there, and stay at the same bed and breakfast. I really miss it, and will go back someday!

8. What's your life philosophy?

9. What's your best memory from the past year?

My sweet baby boy being born on our dating and engagement anniversary (8.14.14)

10. What are three things you never leave home without?

Cell phone, Lipgloss, and Water

11. How do you find serenity when life is crazy?

Breathe, Laugh, Love.

I nominate:

Go ahead and answer the questions below, create a new set of 10 questions, then pass the award on to 10 other bloggers that have less than 200 followers--making sure to notify them!

Here are your questions

1. Why did you start your blog?
2. Where do you get inspiration for your posts?
3. Where is your favorite vacation spot?
4. Do you belong to any bloggers associations?
5. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
6. What's your favorite memory from the last year?
7. What is your favorite quote?
8. Guilty Pleasure?
9. Favorite movie/book?
10. What are three words that would describe you?

Finally Friday!

Yay for Friday! I have been exhausted this week, it has actualyl been a pretty busy week in our house...hubby was out of town this past weekend which made for a long weekend! I subbed twice this week (Wednesday and today) and had swimming on Thursday. I have gone to bed by 10 every night in hopes to get a little sleep before Bennett may or may not wake up. I've slept great at night and feel well rested in the morning, just not when it comes to 6pm. I've had a headache now for probably a week off and on. Since I am nursing, I can't really take any hard core stuff so I just pray it goes away with ibuprofen and Tylenol and mint and lavender oils. But I am so glad that it is Friday!

1. Bennett is starting to hold his breath when he goes under water.

We have been in swim class since he was 4.5 months old, and just recently (6 months) he started going under the water. I don't know what it was about this week, but everytime we went under the water he was able to hold his breath and not drink the water. I am excited for him to continue learning about the water in swim class. When it comes to bath, he thinks it's swim class and makes a huge mess. He loves his bath every night, and for that I am thankful.

2. I love my new water bottle.

I received my water bottle that holds the fruit in it this week in the mail! I took a picture of it and posted on Instagram, but here it is for those that don't follow me!

3. I made a delicious sweet and sour skinny chicken yesterday. (Check it out here on Menu plan Monday)

It was probably the easiest thing to do and super yummy. I suggest if you are trying to cut calories instead of the delicious chicken from your local Chinese, try making this one night! It won't dissapoint.

4. I made steel cut oatmeal raisin cookies! (On the blog this week!)

I only really buy steel cut oats, so when I decided to make oatmeal cookies yesterday I had to find a actual recipe for using steel cut oats. It was a great recipe, I will post this week! The only real difference is that the oats were cooked before throwing into the batter. :)

5. I have got to find an Easter outfit for myself, as well as a dedication outfit.

Although I have lost the baby weight, these "baby hips or milk makers" as I like to call them have not gone back to where they are supposed to be, making trying on clothes not so fun. I will have to decide on something this next week as Easter is right around the corner--literally, as well as Bennetts dedication.

What you missed this week!

Babysitter Notes--Printable

When I first started leaving Bennett with my MIL, I left extensive notes for her to follow. I ended up making my own note taking sheet because I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. Since he has gotten older, she knows his schedule and what he likes to do when he is awake, so I no longer write lengthy notes for her. I know at some point we will probably have a sitter that doesn't know Bennett as well as our families do, and that is why I created this printable. I plan on making these 2 per sheet and then just cutting one out when I need it. Feel free to download and tag me on instagram when you use it--viewfromuphereblog!

gDiapers--the New Cloth Diaper

When I was pregnant, I remember my cousin asking me if I was going to cloth diaper. To which I quickly replied "NO WAY!" One day at Babies R Us, I was looking at the disposable diapers trying to figure out which ones to buy for Bennett which at the time I was still pregnant. My mom spotted gDiapers and she instantly fell in love, I came home and researched it and I fell in love as well! They have got to be the trimmest cloth diaper there is, and the money I save each month is wonderful!

What you need- Cover, Pouch, and Inserts (either disposable or cloth)

You can purchase gDiapers from a number of different places...Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, Target online, Amazon, and gDiapers.com. I have only purchased the inserts and some pouches from Amazon, the rest I purchased on a Facebook gDiaper resell group. To get started you need about 6-8 gPants (you only change these if they get soiled or after say 3 changes...I usually use 2 a day.) 24 gCloths (about 4 packs) or you can buy disposable inserts. 12 gPants pouch (2 boxes).

I never did buy newborn sizes, we ended up using newborn disposables and started the gDiapers at one month. He was in the small for a short period of time, maybe 2 months (?). The good thing about the M/L/XL sizes is that the pouch and cloth size does not change. So that means from 13 lbs to 34 lbs the only thing you buy is gPants.

How do they work?

Here is my set up...I have disposables in the back for when someone babysits and doesn't want to use the cloth or at night. I put together my gDiapers so all I have to do is put a cloth in them and change like a regular diaper, instead of snapping in liners and cloth while trying to change Bennett.

The pouch snaps into the gPant..

Then the gCloth goes soft side up into the pouch, or if you are using a disposable insert place that in there instead! You then put it on baby with the g on the bum.

When the diaper becomes soiled, just take the cloth out and put in a wet bag (mine is in the diaper pail on the left) I then throw any wipes I use into the diaper pail on the right (which is by far my favorite as it uses regular trash bags!) as well as any liners or disposable diapers. If it's #2 and it's NOT EBF drop it in the toilet and either spray or wipe down so it doesn't stain your cloth or you can use liner (I used liners when we were in between EBF and solids). If it is EBF you can throw in wet bag as is.

Up Next: Washing gDiapers

Finally Friday!

Let's cut to the chase. Friday will probably always be my favorite day. This weekend should be nice and relaxing, I don't have much planned but to get some stuff done around the house. I guess spring cleaning of sorts.

1. I confess my boy is changing every day.

Literally every day is something new. Today during swim class, he was watching one of his friends splash in the water. Once his friend stopped splashing Bennett began, and then would look back at the baby...as if looking for approval.

This afternoon we were going to go on a walk, but it randomly started raining. So we ended up sitting on the porch and blowing bubbles. I was teaching him how to pop them. I would catch one on the wand and then say "pop" to pop the bubble I caught.

2. I confess I can't stand skin checks.

My friend over at A Life of Love and Joy wrote about getting skin checks regularly. She kinda pushed me via her blog post to get mine. They ended up removing a mole on my belly that didn't look right. It does not feel good...but hey the place has a cappuccino machine and lollipops, and tvs in each room. I'll be coming back next year.

3. I confess I got some stuff on J.Crew that I can't wait to share.

I had been wanting a rash guard to wear to swim class, as I always fear Bennett will accidentally pull my top down if its too low cut. I go the cutest rash guard, and swim suit. They should be here this week!

4. I confess that I will miss my date night with hubby tomorrow.

My hubby has been working a lot, so I am going out with my sister tomorrow night instead. I am voting Cinderella...her vote is Insurgent. She will probably win.

5. I confess that I am living on the edge with my last pair of contacts. `

I am just waiting for my contacts to just get lost or something, and then I will be stuck calling the dr for a last minute appt. That's another dr I don't like. That whole blowing in my eye is unnecessary.

That's What She Said: Reading

Reading a book and having a baby are two things that just don't go well together. Unless you are reading the latest Duck and Goose book, or reading the directions to put a toy together...it just usually doesn't happen. Not going to work everyday to teach reading kinda makes you feel like you are losing your touch with reading...(side note: the kids challenged me to a triple digit multiplication problem, and I got it right...I guess I've still got that.) Basically reading a good book just isn't in my list of to dos, even though it should. I'm here to tell you there are other sources then just books when reading! Even though it's always nice to pick up a good book, at this time I just don't see that happening. Here are my top three ways of reading daily!

1. theSkimm---http://www.theskimm.com/

This is a email newsletter created in 2012 that sums up current events in a news format that is short, concise, and to the point. It comes to my inbox around 7:30AM every morning. Just in time for me to enjoy it during our breakfast. When signing up I was worried that it was going to be another spam time newsletter, I have not been spammed...just received the newsletter every morning.

2. Feedly---https://feedly.com/i/welcome

I really need to start using Bloglovin' but I have used feedly for so long it's kinda hard to change to something else. I love reading blogs and reading them on Feedly is fast and easy. During the day, whether I am sitting down for my coffee, to nurse Bennett, snuggle time, or bedtime... I always have the option to read something.

3. Audiobooks---http://www.audible.com/

Every morning Bennett has independent play time, during that time I put audiobooks on for him to listen to. He loves the lady that reads If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, as soon as it switches to a different book he fusses and wants to listen to it again...it's pretty funny. Anyways, this is about my reading time. I really enjoy audiobooks when I am driving on road trips, cleaning the house, or falling asleep at night. A few years ago, my husband and I were driving to Ohio and listened to all of the Hunger Games during our trek up and down...and while there. I have many more but haven't taken the time to listen to them lately.  For a while I used audible for my books, and for Bennett's I like to get them from the library.

Waiting on...Spring

While I'm Waiting...

I love the warm weather. I love fruit salad, chicken salad, bbq's, going out on the lake, and swimming. Last year, I was a major whale floating pregnant woman...and this year I actually get to bring my baby in the pool to swim with me! I bought a few things from J.Crew--online, who actually has time to go to the mall anymore? As soon as they arrive I can't wait to share them, but in the mean time...hubby is working late and I am getting in trouble on one of my best friends favorite websites--Amazon...Amazon Prime.

1. Pacific Play Tents Under the Sea Cabana w/ Zippered Mesh Front 2. AdNArt Flavour It Glass Water Bottle with Fruit Infuser 3. Fitbit One Wireless Activity

Bennett: The Florida sun is HOT this will be a wonderful thing to bring with us outside for picnics and to the beach for naps by the water!

His: I found one of these things on one of my favorite websites--NoBetterDeal. I had it in my cart, and when I went to check out it was gone! This would be great for Nic since he has to take off any thing on his wrists or hands when he is working at a plant.

Mine: It's SUPER important to drink water when breastfeeding. I really try to drink 6 bottles a day, but sometimes I forget and only drink 3 or 4. I love fruit and I love fruit in my water--a win/win. Can't wait to start using this!

Seven Month Update

Weight/Length: Bennett really likes to make my life easy as far as remembering what he gains each month. We are on a consistent 1 lb. per month gain.

Hair: He has some long hairs over his ears, and its pretty thick near the nape of his neck. It's still pretty light, definitely not as dark as when he was first born. These pictures are 1 month vs. 6.5 months.

Diapers: Size 2 Honest Company and Medium Gdiapers--we are switching to threes this next week when they get delivered. The Medium gdiapers are here to stay for a while. I think it is 22 lbs they are good til!

Clothing: 6-12 Months in Gap, Old Navy, and Gymboree. Except some random jeans that must have been sized wrong from the Gap and they finally fit him, all the others are their size are too small. 6-9 Months in Carters, 6 in PJS and 9 in onesies and rompers, etc. they look too tight and I have to pull them over any diaper we use.

Favorite Things: Triangle toy, Scout, Smile Chair, Water Bottles

Likes: He likes screeching then laughs after he does it, sitting up, playing with bubbles, going backwards in his walker, standing at his leapfrog table, playing hide and seek, and exploring what food he has on his table

Dislikes: He doesn't like when he sees a toy he wants and can't get, or when he decides that he wants to get tangled up after being in the sitting position and moving to belly.

Eating: we started him on solids at 4.5 months and the boy hasn't looked back. I make all of his baby food, and sometimes when we are out either use the Happy Baby or Plum brand. He has tried A LOT of food now, and we gave him a few bites of yogurt the other day with his breakfast. We are working with him on the sippy cup and tilting it back to get the water out. I think we may try a cube of carrot juice to add a little taste to the water. It may take a little longer with the cup since he doesn't have bottles all that much, and when he does he is usually leaning back and drinking it.

Milestones: He is standing when holding on to things, sitting up by himself, gets up on all 4's (not moving forward or backward), first Busch Gardens Trip, 2 colds, and some random fever sickness

SleepingGenerally up 2 times at night, once around 6-7 hours after going to bed, then 3 hours later. He wakes around 7 every day. He did great with Daylight Savings Time and I don't even think he realized something changed!

Mama Thoughts:

My little baby boy is 7 months already?! He is growing so fast, and is developing such a personality. I love the way he looks at all of his family members, and you can tell he is so excited that he gets to love on them so much! We are very blessed to live so close to everyone of them. I know the next 5 months are going to fly by, and I am going to cherish them even more so (if possible) then I did the past 7.

Finally Friday!

This week was such a fun week! I really enjoyed my "spring break" with my family. The temps are really getting up up there and it is getting warm out there! I'm excited for summer and the pool, but not so much temps in the high 90s. Here are my confessions:

1. I confess that I am really starting to figure out my camera.

I got this really nice camera  a Canon DSLR back in May for my first Mother's Day gift. I started using it right away and playing with all the manual settings on it, etc. I took our Christmas picture and have taken his monthly pictures. Yesterday, I actually went out and took some pictures of my sister dancing en pointe. Here is one of my favorites! You can check some more pictures out on her instagram: @all.x.wat

2. I confess I lost my fitbit charger.

Don't even ask. I have not had that thing for more than a month...and it's gone. I seriously have no idea where it is. I'm pretty sure that by the end of they year, I will probably have 12 of those darn things.

3. This was not the week for meal plans.

I enjoyed my spring break a little too much, and decided that my social calendar Bennett's social calendar, was a little more important. Next week I will definitely be back with some new recipes!

4. I confess that I am counting down the hours til my hubby is home tonight.

I really can't wait for him to be home. I don't drink anything during the week (1 drink puts me in a deep sleep), so on the weekend when the time comes and Bennett is asleep...I finally enjoy my glass of wine or cider, then say goodnight world.

5. My baby will be 7 months tomorrow.

These are a Few of My Favorite Things: Jewelry

This is my necklace collection, and actually after taking this picture I found 5 more. Oops! A lot of these necklaces I have purchased from Very Jane (now Jane), Francesca's, Target, and some other Boutiques. I had the one mannequin on the left, but soon realized I had way too many was buying too many necklaces to have only one. Over to the right is my bracelet, earring, and ring collection. I'm not too big on the earrings, and tend to lose earrings a few weeks after I wear them. They generally turn up in a bag somewhere...then disappear again. I chose some of my favorite pieces from my jewelry collection to share today!

1. Hair Rubber Bands- You may not think this is actually part of a jewelry collection, but to me it is! I think that anything you use to accessorize is considered a type of jewelry. I can't wait for my hair to grow out some more and I can start wearing them again!

2. Headbands- I have talked about sweaty bands quite a bit on here, but my other obsession is pretty headbands. I believe I have bought the majority from Francesca's. These are so easy to throw in your hair when you forgot chose not to wash the night before.

3. Bourbon and Boweties and Other Stacking Bracelets- I received the Bourbon and Boweties bracelets for Christmas as well as the Florida bracelet. I then bought the "Love" bracelet on Jane just 2 weeks ago.

4. Engagement Ring and Wedding Band and Tiffany Bracelet- obviously you know my husband gave me the engagement and wedding band when we got engaged (8/14/12) and married (6/29/13). He gave me the Tiffany's bracelet our first Christmas (12/25/08) together (I think he wanted me to stick around). I totally forgot to take my heart Tiffany's ring off my finger to take a picture...but he got me that as well on an anniversary.

5. Kate Spade Mrs. Necklace and Pearls- I received the Kate Spade necklace from my husband the morning of my wedding. I love this..but the earrings, well...err..don't ask me where they are. The pearls I received from my mom the morning of my wedding as well. I wore them with my dress that day.
